US F-15 Eagle Crashes In Middle East, Crew Ejects Safely
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- The U.S. Air Force says one of its F-15E fighter jets has crashed on a routine training mission in the Middle East. Both crew members ejected safely.
The Air Force says only that the crash happened late Thursday morning in southwest Asia, a broad term that includes the Persian Gulf region.
It says rescuers made their way to the scene of the crash, and the cause of the accident is being investigated.
Air Force spokesman Maj. James Bressendorff was unable to say where exactly the crash occurred or provide further details.
The F-15 entered service in the 1970s. The Air Force got its first F-15E Strike Eagle version of the fighter in 1988.
